5 Ways to Make Your Business Covid-Safe

The worldwide pandemic of Covid-19 has affected us all. From the guy at the newsstand to the President of the United States and other world leaders no one is safe from the deadliest virus since 1918, so being Covid-safe is a top priority.

Many businesses have had to close and many more are on the verge of collapse, but if you’re lucky enough to be able to stay in business there are some things you can do to make your workplace Covid-19-safe:

  • Social distancing
  • Limited staff
  • Reduced hours
  • Sanitize everything
  • Enforce policies

Social distancing is a tried and tested method of reducing the transmission rate while limiting the number of people you come into contact with will further help. Cutting hours isn’t pleasant but it might be necessary while cleaning everything with the necessary products and enforcing rules around Covid-19 protects everyone as best as possible.

Don’t Stand So Close to Me

Almost from the start of the pandemic health experts have been advising social distancing measures such as the 2-meter rule and wearing face coverings. Covid is transmitted primarily through expelled droplets from talking, coughing, and sneezing, which don’t usually travel further than 2 meters so placing markers (more info) around the business can help with this.

Wearing a mask further protects you by catching droplets from your mouth and preventing droplets from others from being transmitted.

Skeleton Crew

For the time being, it might be necessary to run your business with a skeleton crew so as to come into contact with as few people as possible. Modern technology can help with this as meetings can be arranged on video call apps and cloud systems can facilitate working from home for anyone with an internet connection.

There are many easy to use cloud solutions but consulting an expert might be necessary to get it up and running.

Time to Go Home

If you can’t limit your staff then cutting hours might be a better idea. That way you are further limiting contact with other individuals who could be infected and not even know it. The best practice is to only come into close proximity with somebody if it is necessary and make sure your staff do the same.

This might not be a nice thing to do as people may lose money, but at this point, it is absolutely necessary.

Spic and Span

This sounds obvious but making sure everything is sanitized often is a great way to combat the virus. There are now many antibacterial products that can kill the SARS-CoV-2 bacterium that causes Covid-19. This is especially necessary for businesses where people share resources such as computers, printers, or cash registers and should be particularly practiced for any business that deals with the general public.

Simply spraying and/or wiping with a clean cloth can almost completely secure your business against the virus.

Rules Rule

Staff members, and indeed customers who flout any Covid safety policies should be reprimanded instantly and as an employer you should try your best to lead by example. Any policies that are in place such as social distancing and mask-wearing should be strictly enforced for everyone. If a staff member violates these rules then discipline them, if a customer does it then eject them from the premises.

Everyone’s health and safety is at risk so selfishness such as this shouldn’t be tolerated.
