Adopting a cat? Your ultimate guide to ensure that it stays healthy!

“No house is complete without the pitter-patter of kitty feet.”

Generally speaking, there are two types of people; One who likes Dogs and others who like cats. If we are not wrong, you are the latter one. Right? Well, high-five! Because we also love them.

Come to think about it, how can a person not adore them. They are furry, cuddly, and don’t need lots of human interaction. That means, unlike dogs, they won’t get sad because you are busy with your work.

Not to forget that if you have an introverted personality, kittens are your best companions. It’s like having a best friend who understands you and will be by your side but won’t be evident about it. Besides, just like your best friend, they also have tantrums. That’s why you need to give them attention.

Nonetheless, it is always a great idea to have a pet. They make life more exciting and adventurous. In fact, according to the report of ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), 35% of Americans have cats, and around 44% have dogs. That’s because they help in improving human health.

You’ll feel less lonely, have someone who’ll keep your secrets ( and even if they try to tell your secret, nobody will understand their “woof” or “meow”), and most importantly, you’ll have a small family. Woah! It got a bit overwhelming. Right?

Alright! Now let’s get over this emotional part and get to the point of how you should take care of your kitten. As you can’t understand their language, it becomes your responsibility to ensure that they stay healthy and happy.

But how? To know the answer to this question, you need to read the rest of the article. So without further ado, let’s get meow!

Show your love by pampering.

Do we need to say this? Just like how your furball shows its love to you, you should also replicate your feelings. Pamper them on every opportunity you get. How? Well, you can brush their coat or just use your nails to comb them. Believe us; they’ll love it. You might get tired of doing it, but they won’t.

Besides that, it also keeps them clean and reduces shedding. In addition to this, it also helps spread the natural oil and makes the coat look shiny.

Get lots of litter boxes.

The next thing on the list is to get lots of litter boxes for your kitten. It will help in maintaining privacy between you and your pet. Moreover, ensure that the box is clean regularly for the health of your pet. In fact, it will also help you teach them good habits, i.e., using the litter box for urine and stool.

It’ll also help in observing the change in their habits. So if your pet is not using the box, you’ll know that something is wrong, and you need to visit the veterinarian.

Make sure that they eat well.

Just like you, they also need food and water to function properly. Thus, it is your duty to give them fresh water and food timely. You should use stainless steel cat bowls to improve their eating posture. You should also change their diet after sometimes so that they don’t skip meals because they are bored with the same food.

Keep in mind that if they don’t eat properly, it’ll directly affect their health. They might face respiratory problems, dental disease, or digestive system issues. To avoid that, you should talk to the vet and create a nutritious food diet.

Keep their teeth clean.

Dental health is essential for your furry friend as well. If their teeth are not clean, the issue of tooth decay and gum disease is likely to affect them. That’s not it! It can also lead to feline disease if bacterias enter the body of your beloved pet. Nonetheless, it can be avoided if you brush their teeth regularly.

But, here’s the catch!

Usually, they don’t like to get their teeth brushed. In such a situation, it’ll create an enormous difficulty for you. Why? Well, because you obviously don’t want them to get sick. That’s why you definitely need to learn the tactics of manipulating them.

Don’t forget to book your appointment with the vet.

Even if you are taking good care of your pet, you should still visit the vet regularly. They are experts and can help you in understanding them. Besides, if you are facing any kind of issue, they can help in solving it. However, make sure that you go to a cat-friendly vet. As the treatment of dogs and cats is somewhat different. So search for a vet who is specialized in anatomy and feline health.

Get a cat carrier

Every kitten is different in nature, so if you have one that likes to go out, you should definitely get a cat carrier. It’ll make it easy for you to take them to different places, be it a park or the vet. Besides, if you leave them be, you’ll get distracted by their whereabouts. So it is a better option for you. Moreover, it’ll also be a change in the environment for your pet.

Keep the sharp equipment away.

Kittens are curious. They like to discover new things and hence sometimes make the whole place a mess. But, let’s keep that part apart for a while. We want to say that as they are curious, possibilities are they might end up hurting themselves. Thus you should keep all the sharp objects such as a knife, scissor, cutter, safety pins, or anything else away from them.

Hide them at a place that is hard for them to locate. This way, you’ll also stay stress-free about the safety of your pet.

Protect them from reproductive disease

Lastly, you should consider the thought of getting spaying or neutering to safeguard them from reproductive disease (uterine infection, testicular cancer, breast tumors, etc.).

To sum it all up!

We know that if you are adopting a pet, you’ll love them the most. However, loving them is not enough; you also have to ensure that they stay healthy. And for that, you need to put in your several efforts and learn about their behavior.
