How To Boost Productiveness In The Office

How To Boost Productiveness In The Office

It’s all too easy to become distracted in the office when you’ve hit a bit of a wall at work. I know better than anyone how easy it is to procrastinate and tell yourself that you will do it later. This can become a problem if you end up falling behind on work because not only will you have loads to do, but you run the risk of losing clients. There are many things that you could be doing to ensure that you’re more productive in your office, so that you can stop procrastinating and continue working on your business.

Make sure you’ve eaten and aren’t thirsty

One of the worst things when you’re trying to work is feeling your stomach rumble or sitting there staring at the kettle. Rather than becoming distracted from the task at hand, go and get some food and a drink so that you can come back and not have the distraction of wondering when it’s dinner time. If you’re in an office setting where you can’t get up and eat whenever you feel like it, then it might be an idea to up the amount you eat for breakfast, or keep a small snack on your desk to graze on and curb the hunger.

Get organised

One of my biggest problems until recently was that my desk and work was extremely unorganised because I’d have bits of paper here and there, and tasks weren’t clearly laid out in front of me. I recently moved my desk into another room in my home and it forced me to organise my work and I can honestly say it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my business! Take the time to have a good sort out of your desk and make sure that documents that you will regularly need are neatly in a place that you can access easily when needed. Another idea that’s helped me massively is by having my to do list on sticky notes in front of my desk so that I literally can’t forget to do them. Before I used a folder in my email inbox as a list of things to do and quite frankly, I rarely looked at it. Put important things in front of your face so that you’re forced to sort things out!

Remove distractions

This can be a difficult one for me as I work from home and when my son and partner are at home, I find it much harder to work because I’m not left in peace to think. Remove anything that could be a distraction from the room that you’re working with like a TV, tablet, or even a radio if you find it distracting.

Check your thermostat

I often find that if I’m too hot or that I don’t work as efficiently because all I’m thinking about is jacking in my work and snuggling on the sofa. We’ve got storage heaters in our home, so the temperature control isn’t as simple as central heating. However, we’ve recently turned the radiator off that’s closest to my desk and I’ve found that I’m much more alert and it’s much easier to concentrate. Check to see if your thermostat is at the right level because the temperature of the room could be making all of the difference to how you’re performing.

Have a clear plan

When I first started out working for myself I had a plan on what I wanted to get from it all; independent work and also eventual financial stability. I lost sight of what I was doing it all for a while ago and it’s only been over the past few months that I’ve realised why I wanted to do this in the first place. Make sure that you know what your end game is so that you have something to work towards. If you’re not sure, it might be time to reevaluate what you’re doing.

Take regular short walks

One thing that I’ve learned over the past year is you simply cannot rush through your work with the intention of spending the rest of the day doing the bare minimum. It’s hard to concentrate for long periods of time, especially when you’re using a computer all day. Make sure that you take regular short walks away from your desk so that you can clear your mind. You’ll find that you actually are more productive by not trying to rush through it all!

There are of course, many other ways that you could boost your productiveness in the office, but these are some of the things that you could try right now so that you can get on with your work!
