How to Make your Home Look More Valuable and Sell Faster

If you want to prepare your home for viewers, then this is otherwise known as staging. This will help you to make sure that your property sells faster, and it may even add thousands to the total value as well. If you want to try and get the best result out of your home then you need to make sure that you are meticulous in your improvements and that you also take into account the individual aspects of your home.

Declutter but Don’t Depersonalise

The first thing that you need to do is try and get rid of all the stuff that might have accumulated in your garage Put it into storage or even think about gifting it to a friend. People need to be able to see what the property is going to look like if they happened to live there. This can be difficult if you have your stuff lying around everywhere, but if you want to try and change this then you’ll be glad to know that this is very easy to do. This is especially the case if you have a storage unit. If you want to take things to that next level, then try and remove any bulky furniture and replace it with smaller items.

New Paint

Giving your walls a new lick of paint can make all the difference. It can make your home seem way bigger and lighter. If you have bright purple walls or even walls that are lime green in colour, then this won’t be doing your buyers any favours. They may feel as though they have to redecorate as soon as they move in and this can even lead to a lower offer. If you have a painted front door then now would be the time for you to give it a fresh coat of paint. If you can do this then you can easily make your home look as though it’s worth more.

Fix and Clean

Sure, you might not think that the holes in the walls or even the broken doorknobs are anything to be concerned about but they really are. Your buyer doesn’t want to have to worry about cracked tiles, worn-out carpets or anything else of the sort. You also need to try and clean everything until it absolutely sparkles. Get rid of limescale, wax your wooden floors and even eliminate odours. This will make your home feel way more appealing and it will also give viewers the chance to imagine that they are in fact living there.

Tidy the Garden

Tidy up the garden where you can. This may involve cutting the bushes back, cleaning the patio and even removing dirt from any of the furniture. Sure, this may not add much value to your home but at the end of the day, it will make it far more likely to sell and this is something that you should be focusing on.

Update your Kitchen

The kitchen is quite possibly the most valuable room in your entire home. It’s actually worth more in terms of square foot when compared to any other room and it can make all the difference if your buyer isn’t sure about your property. If you want to try and make a change here, then you need to try and reface your kitchen cabinetry. This is much cheaper when compared to installing new cabinetry and it’s just as effective. Updating your kitchen countertops can be expensive but at the same time, it can add some serious value to your property.

Light and Airy

The lighter and airier you can make your home feel, the better. Think about putting up some wall mirrors as this will make your home feel way better and it will also give you the chance to try and make a big difference. If you want to make a huge impact in a smaller room or a hallway then try and add a mirror there. Cleaning windows on the inside and out will also make a huge difference. If you have broken lightbulbs, then now is the time for you to replace them as it will make your entire space feel lighter and so much better.

Light a Fire

If you have an open fire or if it is a chilly day then think about lighting a fire. You might also want to try and burn some pinecones. When you do, you will soon find that you are able to get that delicious smell and that you are also able to make your home look warm and inviting too. If you do not have an open fire, then try and make sure that your fireplace is nice and clean.

Make Everything Look Pretty

Make sure that your windows are dressed properly and that you have blinds or curtains up. Naked windows can make a space feel somewhat impersonal and run down as well. If you do not have any blinds, then try and install some cheap curtains instead. Plants and flowers will also bring colour to your space and it will make it seem wonderful. Having a fruit bowl can also work wonders, so try and think about getting something like this too.

Upgrade your Pumps and Boiler

People love to hear that you have just had a new pump or boiler installed, so make sure that you go ahead with this. If you do, then you will soon find that your home is better for it and that you are also able to really get a great result. Submersible pumps are very affordable and well worth the investment.

Make your Home Smell Great

Bad smells are quite possibly the biggest turn off for buyers. You have to make sure that you don’t cover them up, and that you fix the main source of the smell if possible. Clear out your drains, your wash bin and also make sure that you air the kitchen from any old cooking smells too. Getting rid of furniture that has cigarette smoke is also vital. If you are a smoker then try and place some bowls of vinegar around the house. The vinegar smell will disappear after you open the window and it will take a lot of the stale cigarette smoke with it as well.
