How To Take Care Of Your Business When You’re Away

One of the hardest things about running your own business is knowing when to switch off. As an entrepreneur, you will often be the sole person running your business and if that is the case, it can be hard to know when you can take time off. Whilst it may seem impossible as you can’t leave your business running whilst you’re on vacation or off sick, there are a number of ways to ensure your business can continue to run whilst you’re not there. With that in mind, here are a number of ways to take care of your business when you’re away:

  • Make Sure You Set Up An Out Of Office

One of the first things you need to remember when you’re away is to set an out of office on your emails. Whilst you may not receive and emails whilst you’re away, it is important you’re setting an out of office just in case you do. Your out of office will automatically send to anyone that emails you, instructing them that you are away and letting them know the date you will be back. They’re incredibly easy to set up, and can help avoid any ‘sorry I was late getting back to you’ conversations when you return. • Hire Someone To Check Your Emails And Monitor Your Social Media

If you think you’re going to need someone to monitor any important emails that are coming in or someone that can monitor your social media mentions and messages, you may want to hire a temporary VA in your absence. Whilst you may need to give them a week or so beforehand to train, having someone who can cover the important aspects of your business whilst you’re gone will help ensure you don’t miss any potential new clients or customers getting in touch. It will cost you, but it will be worth it when your business is still in good standing order when you return.

  • Set Up An Answering Service

Another thing you may want to consider to ensure you are letting people know that you’re away is to change your current answering service. If you already have a message, changing it to let customers know the date you’re returning will help avoid any incidents whilst you’re gone. • Ensure You Have Tied Up Any Loose Ends If You’re Leaving For A Number Of Weeks

If you are leaving for a number of weeks it is important you are tying up any loose ends you may have. Finish off any client work you may have, book the time off with clients well in advance and ensure that you have let everyone know where you’re going to be going and whether or not they can reach you.
