What Are Removable Wallpapers?

Before we move further, it is better you learn what these removable wallpapers are.

Removable wallpaper, or as they are more commonly known – peel & stick wallpaper, comes with a self-adhesive finish on the back. Meaning, they do not require you to apply any adhesive before hanging them up.

Peel & stick wallpaper, essentially has non-adhesive paper over the adhesive. Removing the paper exposes the sticky finish which bonds with the wall surface like a sticker.

Pretty interesting. Huh?

Now comes the interesting part – the easy-breezy process to put up these wallpapers.

The Process

Here’s the process that makes home DIY projects a breeze with removable wallpapers.

Step 1. Preparing the wall

Before hanging the wallpapers to the wall, you’d want to be sure that it stays there and doesn’t come off sometime later.

For this, you should clean and wipe the wall with a damp cloth. Wiping clean the wall should ensure that there is no dirt settled on the surface and the adhesive can properly adhere to the wall.

Another benefit that cleaning would offer is; there will be minimum or no air bubbles to ruin the finish of your art.

Step 2. Marking directions

Once cleaned, your wall is ready to be decorated with captivating wallpapers. But to be double sure that all goes well with your project, you would first want to mark the directions on the wall and the wallpaper.

The markers should help you decide the orientation and correct placement of every repeat, especially if you are using patterns or motifs for your decor.

For instance, if you’re using a vertical striped wallpaper, you’d want all the stripes to be parallel to each other. Placing the repeats wrongly would make the stripes intersect with each other, which could ruin your fine art.

Step 3. Placing the first piece of the puzzle

The only difficult step is hanging the first piece of the puzzle – the first wallpaper sheet.

You’ll need to align it as close to the directions and border marks, as possible. Once your first piece is hung, the rest is just repeating it over and over, again and again.

Keep in mind, if you’re using any patterns or motifs, repetition would still demand a little more focus on your part.

Nonetheless, you still won’t have to deal with all that glue and clutter around the room. The only clutter would be the wallpapers and their safety films.

Did we mention, you would not need special tools to hang these wallpapers? Well, there is no need for a flatbed, a brush to apply to glue, dampeners, and bright lamps, and more. All you need is a razor and smoothing tool. And you’re good to go.
