Top Ways to Fake Luxury Living

Do you regularly find yourself caught between one home improvement and another? Wanting this, that and the other? Well, these thrifty tips will help you spruce up your home and add little touches of luxury, without spending a fortune. Here’s how…

Wall Coverings

It might require a little creativity on your part, but there are plenty of ways to revive tired old walls without using a lick of paint. Think stencils, hanging fabric, photo brick walls… the list is endless! All these will be cost-effective and make you feel like you’ve paid a decorator but without the costly bill at the end of it all.

Grass

Artificial grass will look good all year round and doesn’t require the maintenance of a real lawn. If you’re longing to look out onto a perfect lawn, then this may be your answer. Most come with warranties as well, so if there’s a problem then you will be able to replace it. It’s definitely worth doing some research to find out more about the advantages of artificial grass, as well as the range of elegant colours and variety of lengths and textures to suit any surroundings.

Artificial Flowers

We’ve come a long way since cheap plastic stems and fraying fabric petals. Now, you can get some truly top-of-the-range artificial flowers, which are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. There are many advantages to filling your home with plants, whether real or artificial, but flowers are costly to continually refresh. Have a look online and do some research to find out what sort of plants and flowers you would prefer – but nothing says luxury like a fresh bouquet.

Add Moulding

Beautiful high-end homes usually make a point of highlighting their original features. Whilst a fireplace might be out of the question, there’s no reason you can’t accentuate different parts of a room with some moulding.

Update Old Fixtures

A great way to update the look of your home on a budget is to update old fixtures. Particularly in kitchens and bathrooms, old and tarnished door knobs, handles and towel rails can all contribute to a room looking less than its best. You’ll be able to find quirky, interesting designs online to quickly and cheaply refresh the space.

Add Mirrors

Everyone knows that mirrors trick the eye into thinking that a room is bigger than it is. They also create a sense of opulence and luxury in any room. Particularly if you place candles or metal ornaments in front of them, your room will look rich as well as up to twice its size.

Light with Care

Natural light and lighting sources are something to think carefully about when placing furniture in a room. Be sure that you don’t block any points of natural light as this will create a sense of airiness and spaciousness in the room. Add in table and floor lamps throughout and be aware of points people will sit at the most and ensure these are well lit.

Knowing when to splurge and when to hold back is key. Things that will last for years are worth spending that little bit extra on but, for a quick refresh, you can use our tips and tricks to fake a little bit of luxury.
