How to Make Your House Move Run Smoothly

Moving home is both an exciting time, and also one that can be extremely stressful. Therefore, it is a good idea to do whatever you can to make the whole process of moving house run as smoothly as possible so that you can keep your stress levels to a minimum.

Whether you’ve been looking at homes for sale in Knoxville, TN, or you’re looking to relocate somewhere far away, your move needs to be planned out to the finest detail. Come moving day, you don’t have to worry so much about organisation or who’s doing what.

When moving home, organisation is the key to making sure that you are prepared for the move. Luckily, there are plenty of ways in which you can give yourself a head start to make life as easy as possible when moving day comes along.

Declutter First

There’s nothing more stressful than not allowing enough time to declutter and leaving yourself with absolutely tonnes of stuff to sort through once you start packing. A decluttering session is a useful thing to do regularly, whether you are planning to move house or not. Keeping up with a regular declutter makes the whole process a lot more manageable and a lot less time-consuming.

Make piles of things that you want to sell, things you want to donate to charity and things that you want to keep. If your ‘things that you want to keep pile’ is looking on the large side, and you don’t have anywhere to keep it at home, why not put it into storage to help free up some space in preparation for your move? Hiring a storage space means you don’t need to part with items that you want to keep, and also that you won’t be tripping over them at home either.

Start Packing Early

When it comes to moving house, it is never too early to start packing. Of course, you shouldn’t pack up everything, but making a start is an excellent way to get prepared for your impending move. Start by packing up items that you don’t use daily, and things that are decorative, rather than useful. Choose items to pack that you won’t need to use between now and moving day, and then get them boxed up and out of the way.

Packing is a task that always takes far longer than expected, so if you can get started early, you will be happy that you did come moving day.

Label It

The usefulness of correctly labelling your packing boxes cannot be underestimated. At the time of packing, you may think that you will remember what was in each box, but in reality, on the day of your move, you are going to have a lot going round in your head. Make sure you use a pen which won’t wipe off, and won’t run if you move on a rainy day, to label your boxes.

When labelling your boxes, you should ensure that you put the name of the room that the box belongs in clearly on the box. Marking each box with the room it is destined for will mean that you can carry each box straight to the correct place when you move, this will make the boxes so much easier to unpack.
