5 Reasons to Visit Malaga for Your Next Holiday Break

Malaga is one of those lesser-known holiday destinations in Spain that people often overlook. It’s not the most popular tourist attraction, it doesn’t have the most eccentric nightlife and it doesn’t have the best beaches in the world. In fact, most people just consider Malaga to be an entry point when visiting Andalucia, one of the most popular regions of Spain.

In this article, we’re going to cover five reasons why you should be planning a trip here for your next big holiday break.

1. The weather in Malaga is absolutely amazing

As with most Spanish destinations, the weather is always a huge selling point. Malaga is no different. With some 300 days of sun across the year, it’s quickly becoming one of those “hidden gem” destinations in Spain that more and more people are visiting thanks to the outstanding weather. The temperature can get quite hot (anywhere up to 40 degrees during summer) but you’ll also get temperatures around 15 degrees even during winter, meaning there’s never a cold moment.

2. There are countless cultural attractions

Whether it’s tasting local Spanish delicacies or taking a relaxing traditional Andalusian bath and ritual, there are hundreds of cultural attractions for you to explore. You’ll find some of the most delicious (and cheapest!) street food markets in the whole of Europe, and there are also plenty of important museums in Malaga thanks to its status as the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. Whether you want to explore modern or historic attractions, there’s plenty to see here in Malaga.

3. Accommodation is surprisingly accessible

Accommodation is usually quite expensive in Spain, but you’d be surprised at how accessible it is in Malaga. From common hotel chains to Jardin del Mediterraneo apartments, you have a wide selection of accommodation options available to you. Whether you want to live close to the action or further away in a luxury resort, there’s a wide range of choices available for solo travellers, small groups and large families alike.

4. Experience the UNESCO heritage sites near Malaga

If you’re even the slightest bit interested in UNESCO heritage sites or exploring the rich history of Spain’s past, then Malaga makes a fantastic central location to visit some of the hidden gems across Andalucia. From exploring resort towns to sightseeing walking tours, there’s no shortage of amazing places to visit with Malaga at the centre.

5. A traditional Spanish experience

One of the most wonderful things about Malaga is its soul. As a city with over half a million inhabitants, Malaga has been able to keep its status as a rather idyllic and laid-back Spanish town. It’s a friendly environment that draws you in and encourages you to interact with the locals, and it’s steeped in typical Spanish traditions that you feel welcomed to take part in. When going on holiday, you don’t want to feel like just a tourist being led from one attraction to another. Malaga gives you the opportunity to integrate with other inhabitants, leading to some wonderful memories and exciting encounters.
